1. What is a tag/memo?

In crypto transfers, a tag or memo is a string of numbers or letters used to identify a specific account on certain blockchain networks.

For certain assets and networks, platforms may use a single shared address for multiple users. In these cases, the tag/memo is required to distinguish the actual recipient.

If a page displays a tag/memo and you leave it blank or enter it incorrectly, your funds may be delayed or even lost. Always check both the WEEX page and the receiving platform to confirm whether a tag/memo is needed.

2. When is a tag/memo required?

  • Depositing to WEEX:

When depositing funds from another platform or wallet to WEEX, check the WEEX deposit page. If you see a tag/memo listed alongside the deposit address, you must include it in the transfer details on the sending platform.

  • Withdrawing from WEEX:

When withdrawing from WEEX to another platform or wallet, if the receiving platform provides a tag/memo along with the address, you must enter it on the WEEX withdrawal request page.

3. Tokens and networks requiring a tag/memo

The following tokens typically require a tag/memo when transacting on their respective networks. (Note: This list is for reference only. Always refer to the real-time requirements shown on your deposit/withdrawal page.)

5. Risk notice

If a tag/memo is required but is missed, entered incorrectly, or has expired, you may face the following:

  • The transaction is successful on-chain, but funds are not credited
  • The platform cannot identify the recipient account
  • Funds cannot be credited automatically
  • You may need to submit a support request for manual recovery

Note: Whether recovery is possible, how long it takes, and whether any fees apply depend on the platform's rules and review results.

FAQ

1. Why haven’t my funds arrived even though I entered the correct address?

The tag/memo may be missing or incorrect. For networks using a "shared address," the address alone is not enough to identify your account, so the funds cannot be credited automatically.

2. Can I enter any tag/memo myself?

No. The tag/memo must match the deposit address exactly and should be copied directly from the receiving platform. Do not create your own, reuse old information, or use a tag/memo from another platform, as this may cause your funds to be lost or not credited.

3. Do I need to fill in a tag/memo for every token?

No. You only need to enter a tag/memo when it is clearly shown on the deposit or withdrawal page (such as "Tag", "Memo", "Destination Tag", or "Identification Code"). Most networks, such as BTC (Bitcoin) and ERC20 (Ethereum), typically do not require one.
