TLDR Three Florida teenagers kidnapped a Las Vegas crypto event host at gunpoint The teens stole $4 million in cryptocurrency and NFTs after forcing password disclosure Two suspects (Belal Ashraf and Austin Fletcher, both 16) are in custody, third suspect fled the country Victim was abandoned in Arizona desert and walked five miles to safety FBI is assisting with the investigation, preliminary hearing scheduled for June Three teenagers from Florida are facing serious charges after allegedly kidnapping a man at gunpoint in Las Vegas and stealing $4 million in cryptocurrency and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The incident, which occurred last November, involves two 16-year-old suspects who have been certified to stand trial as adults. Belal Ashraf and Austin Fletcher, both from Pasco County, Florida, are now in custody. The third teenage suspect has fled the United States, according to statements made by prosecutors during Fletcher’s probable cause hearing on Friday. The victim was hosting a cryptocurrency-related event at a business in Downtown Las Vegas on the night of the incident. After returning to his apartment complex and parking his car, he was approached by the three suspects who forced him into the back seat of their vehicle. The teens placed a towel over the victim’s head and issued a chilling threat. According to police documents, the victim “was told if he complied, he would live to see another day, and if he did not comply, they had his dad and would kill him.” Cross-State Abduction During the ordeal, the young men demanded the victim’s passwords and threatened him to gain access to his financial accounts. Police reports indicate that another person appeared to be directing the teens through a speakerphone call that the victim could hear. Crypto theft is evolving. It’s not just social engineering or SIM swaps anymore. These Florida teens kidnapped a man from a Vegas crypto event, drove him into the Arizona desert, and stole $4M at gunpoint.https://t.co/p07Syyeq2n — Sasha Hodder (@sashahodler) May 10, 2025 The investigation revealed that the three suspects drove the victim across state lines to White Hills, Arizona, more than 70 miles from Las Vegas. After the theft was complete, they abandoned the victim in the remote desert area. Left alone, the victim walked five miles through desert terrain to reach a gas station. From there, he called a friend to pick him up and later reported the crime to police. Las Vegas Metro Police tracked a suspect vehicle that had traveled from Florida to Nevada, with stops at locations including the victim’s apartment. Additional evidence came from a separate vehicle stop in Mississippi, where police found a gun belonging to a suspect’s family member that matched one seen in one of the teenager’s social media profiles. Police documents reveal that the three teenagers had previously been involved in disturbances together at a Florida high school. In one incident from last summer, the young men “were reported as swearing in English and Arabic, and [Ashraf] was observed shoulder checking a school resource officer” and screaming at an assistant principal. During Friday’s court hearing, Fletcher’s public defender argued for house arrest instead of detention. Las Vegas Justice Court Judge Daniel Westmeyer set bail at $4 million, matching the amount allegedly stolen. In a separate hearing on Tuesday, Ashraf’s attorney, Ross Goodman, also argued for house arrest. Judge Noreen Demonte ordered Ashraf’s release with electronic monitoring. The FBI is assisting in the investigation, and a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for June. The charges against the teens include robbery, kidnapping, and extortion. This case highlights the increasing risks facing individuals with valuable digital assets and the lengths some criminals will go to obtain them. Court records indicate that surveillance footage captured the victim’s car leaving during the kidnapping.
