CM Punk appears live on WWE Raw WWE Raw aired its post-Backlash broadcast and also the first national wrestling show since the untimely death of Sabu. Seth Rollins extended the AEW trolling streak to 18 with a “cry me a river” reference directed toward CM Punk. CM Punk and his (kayfabe) opps have now trolled AEW every singe month since he’s been back. CM Punk said Rollins will “never be champion as long as I’m on two feet.” So whenever Seth Rollins inevitably becomes world champion, WWE will need to come up with a storyline reason as to why Punk was incapacitated. CM Punk and Seth Rollins Faceoff Grade: B Penta Def. Chad Gable Pat McAfee showed up “late” for work as fans gave him a hero’s welcome. McAfee said he had to be checked out by the WWE medical team before being cleared to commentate. McAfee later revealed a popped blood vessel in his eye from taking all those chops from Gunther. Fans showed their appreciation for McAfee by chanting his name. Pat McAfee noted El Grande Americano was currently on a tour of Mexico after costing Penta the Intercontinental Championship at Backlash. Fans were very much behind Penta, who ran it back with his Papa Smurf gear. Penta picked up a clean win with a Mexican Destroyer. Penta vs. Chad Gable Grade: B American Made Def. War Raiders The New Day appeared on commentary and continue to be a national treasure. The New Day put over American Made, talking up the Creed’s amateur wrestling accolades as Cole accused the New Day of not wanting to face the War Raiders. Xavier Woods made sure to note that Ivar went on a tear while Erik was injured, and he believes the group has plateaued since Erik’s return. Julius Creed impressively scaled the ropes and hit a superplex on Ivar followed by moonsault from Brutus. American Made won with help from the New Day. American Made vs. War Raiders Grade: B Jey Uso Faces Off With Gunther WWE showed footage of Logan Paul’s knockout punch on Jey Uso after Raw went off the air. Cole said the clip got 30 million social media views. Fans begged for a a Yeet encore, and Jey Uso gave it to them.Gunther interrupted Jey’s promo. McAfee put Gunther over by saying he saw firsthand that Gunther’s aura is real. Gunther told Jey he is not a natural champion. He reminded Jey that he has been a champion for 80% of his tenure in WWE. Gunther announced the winner of Paul vs. Uso at WWE Saturday Night Main Event will face Gunther on the June 9th Raw from Phoenix, Ariz. Backstage, earlier in the night, Seth Rollins whispered instructions in Bron Breakker’s ear. Following this segment, Breakker attacked Uso. Sami came to Uso’s aid, and this marked the second week in a row Zayn just missed defending Jey from an attack. Jey Uso And Gunther Faceoff Grade: B- AJ Styles Def. Finn Balor Conspicuous by his absence was Dominik Mysterio. AJ Styles hit a Styles Clash on Balor out of nowhere. Surprisingly, Balor kicked out. Cole blamed the positioning. The Judgment Day interfered, but Penta evened the odds by taking out both JD McDonagh and Carlito. Penta hit an awesome running Mexican Destroyer on both Penta and JD where he ran up JD’s back to his the move on Carlito. Styles finished Balor off with a Phenomenal Forearm. AJ Styles Vs. Finn Balor grade: B+ WWE Pays Tribute To Sabu WWE aired a great video package for the late Sabu as Michael Cole and Pat McAfee narrated it live. Cole said Sabu was a famed rival of his friend Taz. McAfee said he was lucky to grow up in the era of ECW, and Sabu put his life on the line for our entertainment. Fans chanted “thank you Sabu” as the Sabu graphic was shown on screen. AJ Styles vs. Finn Balor Grade: B- Becky Lynch Goes Off On Louisville, Ky. Becky Lynch said as much as she missed wrestling, she did not miss the people. Lynch said she is whatever these fans say she is. This prompted Pat McAfee to quote Eminem’s “The Way I Am.” The longer this promo went on, the more Lynch received “what” chants. Becky Lynch Promo Grade: C+ Rhea Ripley And Iyo Sky Def. Giulia And Roxanne Perez Rhea Ripley walked out last, and got the Xfinity Decibel Meter treatment. It peaked at 110. After chants for Iyo Sky, fan chants quickly changed to “we want Mami!” Raw came back from break and the heel team did everything they could to keep Iyo Sky from tagging Ripley. Sky finally made the hot tag to Ripley, which got a huge reaction. Giulia and Perez cut off Rhea’s hot tag almost immediately and controlled the latter stages of the main event. Ripley shoved Giulia into a diving Roxanne, opening the door for Rhea to hit a Riptide on Giulia for the win. Rhea raised Iyo’s hand, but also stared at the world title as Raw went off the air.
